RIOC under Shelton Haynes’ Leadership

The Board of Directors, on June 19, 2020, named Shelton Haynes as the acting president and CEO of Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. According to Shelton, he has had the privilege of working with the staff members granting him an edge in line with understanding them. Previously Shelton Haynes served as RIOC’s chief operations officer. Through that period, Shelton Haynes coordinated the staff members excellently in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among his expectations is that the workers will embrace the excellent spirit displayed during the pandemic through his term of service. Shelton Haynes believes in teamwork as a means to accomplish goals. Targets set by Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation will have to be achieved through a strategic approach. Among the approaches that Shelton looks forward to is the modification of the RIOC’s business model. The systems will be modified such that there will be significant stress on efficiency and improving the organization through united working.

Shelton will account for the implementation of strategic goals at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. The working will be in conjunction with the Board of Directors such that the governance function meets the needed levels of excellence. Haynes’s leadership is to achieve the corporation’s mission, philosophy, and strategy. Haynes will also oversee and take control of all affairs and businesses in the corporation. It is believed that the previous roles played by Haynes have had a substantial role in preparing Haynes for the current role. As a Chief Operating Officer at RIOC, Shelton accounted for the day-to-day operations on the Island. In addition, he handled management duties to some of the departments in charge of administration and operations.

Haynes also served as the Chief Operating Officer at Dekalb’s County Housing Authority in Georgia. While in the position, Haynes supervised the agency operations, operational and strategic initiatives, and the team responsible for executive management. Some of the accomplishments common with Shelton is the successful transformation of underperforming departments. In November 2020, RIOC announced the opening of Blackwell House, which underwent a thorough renovation process. The house accommodates historical archives, treasures, and records. Through the house, people will have a clear message on the history of Roosevelt Island. Acting president Shelton will be at the forefront leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
