Advanzia began as a savings and loan association known as the German Savings Bank, founded by a group of successful German businessmen who wanted to provide banking services to fellow immigrants whose larger financial institutions were often discriminated against at that time. This bank was very successful and, within a few decades, had outgrown its original quarters.
The institution expanded its geographical reach and service capabilities, offering new financial products to meet changing needs of its customers. In 1984, the bank became Advanzia Federal Savings Bank of Bangor to reflect its growing national image and operations.
